In mid-March, Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed the UK under lockdown over the Coronavirus pandemic. Schools, businesses, restaurants, most of the stores (except for grocery stores), and even things as simple as fishing were banned or closed. All churches were to cease from having in-person services.
Like many of you, this has affected our schedule, our lives, and our ministry. Our heart has run to promises like James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” And Proverbs 29:25, “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” The incredible promises of God have been directive, comforting, challenging, and exhorting through this time. Thank God that His Word doesn’t change!
My family and I are doing well, and all of us have been healthy. We had some bouts of illness prior to the news of COVID-19, but we don’t believe any of us had the virus. The church family has been healthy; and, though some friends or family members of the church have struggled with the Coronavirus, God has kept us healthy.
God gave us the ability to immediately go to livestream services through Facebook Live. This has been well received here! Local people we have never met are responding to the Gospel being preached. People are coming back to the Lord, and souls are being saved! Glory to God!
One of the men in our church had witnessed to his brother Mike, and he had “prayed” but didn’t really mean it” (using his own words). His life validated that statement. Mike got saved and has been zealously growing in the Lord! Alcohol has not been touched, and he cannot wait to come to church with his brother once the lockdown is lifted. Jesus has changed Mike’s life!
In many ways, we are seeing God bring more interaction and interest through this pandemic. Advertising on social media has been greatly followed and interacted with, including some great discussions and opportunities to give the Gospel. Our heart’s desire is to be back in the fellowship of live services, but we thank God for the tools He has given us to reach people with the Gospel. If you would like to view our services on Facebook or YouTube, you’re welcome to do so. Please search for Skelmersdale Baptist Church. God is good!
Thank you for staying faithful in prayer and support. We understand the strain this season may have put on your families, ministries, and finances. Your faithfulness in this season is such a blessing and encouragement, and it enables us to keep preaching Jesus Christ crucified, buried, and risen again. We are praying for you.
